My last post talked about David Vidal in Astorga being one of the legends of the Camino Frances, but I just want to shift focus to another group who doesn’t get the credit it deserves. If you are based in Ireland or if you are on holiday in Dublin from abroad, make sure you pay a visit to St. James’ Church in Smithfield in Dublin. This is where the Camino Society of Ireland is located. It is very close to the Guiness Storehouse, so you can always nip in next door for a quick pint. Before my upcoming Camino at the start of September, I intend to visit the church to receive my first sello (stamp) on my credential. Many Irish peregrin@s in medieval times considered this place the true start of their Camino to Santiago.
The Camino Society of Ireland has an Information Centre open from 10.30 to 3.30 from Thursday to Saturday and there are volunteers there willing to answer any question you may have. They also issue passports, and guidebooks. On any other day, you can receive a sello in the church sacristy.
