A Week is a Long Time

Hi folks…

So a lot has happened since the last time I wrote, and I’m not talking about politics! I mentioned that I was going to meet up with a group called The Challenge Hikers last Sunday and go for a walk in Wicklow with them. Well I did that and it was an experience! I wanted to get out more and see more of this beautiful country of mine. That was the plan as I find I don’t get the practice in before my Caminos. So I met with 17 or so other folks from around the Dublin region and headed for the Wicklow hills. It was bitterly cold with a wind chill of close to zero. I was really looking forward to this but I quickly discovered how unprepared I was for it..the gear, the shoes and the terrain. You see,  I am a trail hiker,  set for a Camino but there was no trail here. In fact it became a real task trying to figure out where my next footprint would be. The ground was boggy marsh and you followed the trail made by the person ahead of you. I fell over as a result, many times. Give me a trail and arrows and I will walk til the sun descends. Otherwise I will be in difficulty. That said I met good people and some people who love the Camino. I wish I had a chance to get to know them more but I spent most of the time concentrating on my own walking. The real downer was that I fell awkwardly on my wrist. What I thought was a strain was more serious and now am in a cast for two weeks. I blame my inexperience. Nothing else. I just hope the bones knit back or else I’ll need surgery. Fingers crossed.

I am getting the cast removed on the 21st so I don’t expect to post much until then. But feel free to comment below or contact me on twitter @cskiescamino where the typing is much shorter 🙂
