Moving forward while following arrows..

Happy weekend everyone! I hope the sun is shining everywhere you are. As Sunday is drawing to a close here, I thought it would be a good time to write a quick post about my own blog and the what the future holds! Now I realise this might not appeal to some of you so I won’t be offended if you click to another screen.

I have been writing under the Clearskies Camino banner ever since my 2nd Camino in 2012 – over 10 years ago. I’ve been so lucky to be given the chance to walk in Spain and Portugal. No one in their wildest dreams would have predicted that I would be still here after so long. But the Camino addiction coupled with a love for writing prevails. I have written about all my Caminos except my May 2019 trip from Lisbon. You can find these Caminos here.

So this is where we are at the moment. I am happy to post a few times each month here. I post more often on Instagram and on Facebook. And I’ve created a Buy Me A Coffee account if you want to buy me a cafe con leche. That said, I have a nagging voice inside of me to take Clearskies Camino to the next level.

Reels, tiktoks and YouTube videos

The growing trend amongst bloggers is that many are moving away from written form to short and snappy posts on social media. Reels (on Instagram) are replacing long form posts. I have noticed a big dip in my viewing figures on WordPress but I seem to be doing ok on Instagram. You won’t find me on Tiktok though!!

YouTube

I have often thought of creating a YouTube channel providing helpful hints on the Camino de Santiago. YouTube is saturated with videos on the Camino, just type in the word and a long list of videos will appear in front of you. Some of them will be helpful, some not so much.

I have a YouTube account for quite some time but it has been sitting by idly gathering dust however I gave it a bit of life on returning from Santiago and am uploading videos every week. I need to ask myself what kind of videos I will create as the ones I have made are not great at all. So if you are a YouTube creator, I could use some advise?

When it comes to YouTube videos and the Camino, why not check out my list of useful links which selects some of the more helpful accounts.

I need a little practice myself though. But I suppose it gets easier over time. Maybe I’m better to stick to what I’m good at – writing. What do you think?

If you like what you see, let me know by hitting the ★Like button and leaving a comment. If you want to hang out with me between posts, then follow me on Instagram and Facebook for more frequent updates. If you really enjoy my posts and want to support the site, I am partial to a cafe con leche. Buen Camino!

  1. I hope you keep writing! I’m not a fan of watching YouTube videos (and also don’t have TikTok) and prefer the written word…I miss the golden age of blogging a lot! If you do want to do YouTube definitely do so…I just hope you keep writing 🙂

    1. Hey Pablo,
Not sure how I didn’t reply to this.
I enjoy the writing so there is no chance of me giving up on it. It gives me time to expand on how I feel after a Camino. I am trying to juggle youtube and wordpress but youtube seems to be a little too complicated for my liking lol.
I am not planning on jumping to Tik Tok or the likes..I just like the idea of having the pilgrim journey recorded in video form.
      Mind yourself and Buen Camino!

  2. Hola Peregrino,
Personally I love reading the blogs. I’ve always thought that they give a greater feel for a journey experienced at a specific moment in time. Your passion and love for all things Camino just shines through the written word and for someone like me who cannot visit the Camino for the foreseeable future it’s wonderful reading and keeps me connected. The wonderful photos also really embellish the blogs. You do all the hard work (walking and writing) and the reader gets the enjoyment without breaking sweat !!😄

I know I’m probably old fashioned in this but the written blog forces the reader to step back and find a quiet space to read and join you on your Camino journey and that’s food for the soul and mind. ! The written word will always outlast the instant noise and short lived gratification of the likes of Tik Tok………God I really do sound old fashioned !! 😉

Many thanks for sharing all your wonderful Camino adventures with us and whatever direction you choose to go in just follow your heart 👍😁

    1. Thanks PJ. I enjoy the writing. It gives me time to expand on how I feel after a Camino. I rarely blog while on the Camino like I used to. I find it difficult, so I journal and write when I return. It is much easier to micro everything as pilgrims don’t have the time after a day’s walking. I haven’t even finished writing my Camino from May but time is not important. I am trying to juggle youtube and wordpress but youtube seems to be a little too complicated for my liking lol.

I am not planning on jumping to Tik Tok or the likes..I just like having the pilgrim journey recorded in video form.

      Mind yourself and Buen Camino!
