Clearskies Camino - My times on the Camino

Weekend Watch #16 – The Meseta

It’s the weekend once again, folks, and another “weekend watch” is due. This clip shows one man’s walk from the start to the end of the Meseta on the Camino Frances. The Meseta is the central Spanish tableland, which divides the Camino Frances between Burgos and Astorga. It is a part of Spain known among pilgrims for its wide skies and flat lands, all of which mess with perceptions of time and distance. Some people find this part of the Camino daunting as it is likely to get under your skin, test your mind, and confront your heart. As a result, many people choose to skip this section by bus. I have walked the Meseta in 2013 and 2015 and much prefer it to Galicia or Navarra. I can’t wait to go back!

You can also find my Camino de Santiago playlist here.

Weekend Watch #15 – Magwood’s Camino Mozarabe

Phew!..what a busy last few days it has been on ClearskiesCamino!! With the Irish Blog Awards over (big shout out to Wandering On blog for winning the Travel award), I can concentrate on the future for the site. I’m so happy with the support I have received since I started to dedicate a lot more time to the site. I’m still a little baby taking to water compared to the bigger fish in the sea, but I am getting there. However, being nominated for awards like that show that I am going in the right direction. Anyway, I digress..back to this week’s “Weekend Watch”.
I have walked the Camino Frances over a number of years but there are so many other Ways to Santiago. If you are looking for a little solitude and are weary of the crowds on the Frances, you could give the Camino Mozarabe a try. It starts in Malaga in the south of Spain and works its way up to the Via de la Plata and onwards to Santiago. If you choose to walk it, you will be lucky to meet a fellow pilgrim on the same day. So yes, solitude is what it gives you.
Maggie Woodward decided to walk it in April from Malaga and has made a great video of her 52 days and 1000km+ trip. I watched it recently and was blown away. It is definitely one for the future.

Maggie will be contributing to the blog on Tuesday in my “Camino Through My Eyes” series so keep an eye out for that. Her blog with full details of her Camino Frances and Camino Mozarabe can be found at magwood.me. I would strongly encourage any future pilgrim to visit it for tips and advice.
Enjoy your weekend!
