Planning ahead

Good evening folks. This post will be brought to you by the words ‘camigo’ and ‘sunflower’, and the sentence ‘dreaming of golden sunrises after a perfect cafe con leche’. Well, that’s what I’ve been doing for the last few weeks! Anyway, back to reality…

It’s a wet and wild evening here in Dublin and I am 150 days removed from my next walk in Spain. As my previous post mentioned, I will be walking along the Camino Inglés from Ferrol, out to Muxia and down to Fisterra. Ahhh..glorius Galicia!

Speaking of sunrises, Galicia is not known for having them, but you never know. I have seen a few down the years on the Camino Portugués and on the Camino Francés, particularly as I am an early riser. You gotta be positive and I will see what the weather has in store for me. I was looking at some stories on social media over the weekend and Galicia has been through the mill weather-wise. Pilgrims prepare for all eventualities, as must I. I have a new rain jacket purchased which fits quite well. Fingers crossed I don’t need to wear it for all of the Camino ha! I am particularly looking forward to walking from Muxia down to Fisterra as I have not walked this section before (a shout out to PJ for the tips by the way) I am also looking forward to meeting Linda from SomewhereSlowly in Dublin before she flies off to Spain for her own Camino Inglés. I can’t wait to meet her as it has been an age since we met!

A tweaking of dates and the Galician terrain

I leave for Santiago on the 6th of September and, according to Monbus, there is a 9.30am bus to Ferrol. This should get me on the road by 11am. I have an arrival date into Santiago of the 11th of September set and my flight home is on the 18th of September. This gives me more than enough time to walk out and down to Fisterra. Fingers crossed. I have always found the walk out to Fisterra challenging. This will be my 3rd time, but I will take a turn to Muxia this time. The rolling hills just seem to go on and on, especially from Negreira to Olveiroa. I guess I am still used to the flatness of the Meseta ha! However, the fact that I am returning to walk it, means it holds a special place in my heart.

Trepidatious Plans for 2025

So I have always wanted to walk this particular route but I have been put off by how quiet is. However, I watched a number of videos on YouTube including this one below and I really think I can walk it. Not in one year, due to work commitments, but over 2 years. I love the Camino Francés but it is getting very busy and the negatives outweigh the positives. On the Via de la Plata / Camino Sanabrés, I think there are too many positives. So my plan is for next April (and this is just dreaming) to walk from Salamanca to Puebla de Sanabria. There is easy access from both towns. I can get to Salamanca to Madrid by bus and I can get by train to Santiago from Puebla de Sanabria. This leaves me with 260km for the following year, please God.

The walk from Salamanca to Puebla de Sanabria can take roughly 10 days and is 230km in total. Another great set of videos can be found here. If anyone of you have walked this particular route, please let me know. This is for the future and I still have the Camino Inglés / Fisterra to walk yet – so I am taking each step as it comes.
